Gillibrand Observes Labor Day with Area Families

Hudson NY - Kirsten Gillibrand, Democratic Congressional candidate in NY-20 will spend Labor Day meeting with area families talking about the issues most affecting them today at two Labor Day picnics.

From New York's Labor Commissioner to the House of Representatives, John Sweeney has been consistent with his lack of support for working Americans. In Congress, Sweeney has repeatedly opposed workers rights, voted against minimum wage increases and flip-flopped on free trade agreements. He hasn't made it any easier at home; living costs are on the rise, from home heating, to healthcare and education. Yet he has voted to increase his salary by $31,600 dollars since arriving in Washington.

Gillibrand released the following statement on Labor Day:

"I am honored by the support my candidacy has received from the labor community. I will go to Washington and fight for the working families of this district. Providing for a family has become far too difficult and in the last few years it has increasingly become harder to make ends meet. It does not make sense that John Sweeney and the Bush Administration have repeatedly prioritized corporate interests and tax breaks for the rich above the needs of our working families. We should be rewarding hard work by providing middle class tax relief though property tax credits, home heating assistance, ending the Alternate Minimum Tax AMT, and providing tax deductions for college tuition."

Gillibrand is Endorsed by the following Labor Groups: AFL-CIO (New York); NYSUT; SEIU 1199; NFFE; IBEW; American Federation of Teachers; American Postal Workers Union; Amalgamated Transit Workers Union; Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers; Communications Workers of America; Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers International Union; Glens Falls Building & Construction Trades Council; International Association of Machinists; National Association of Social Workers; Office & Professional Employees International Union; Service Employees International Union; United Auto Workers; United Food and Commercial Workers; United University Professions; Plumbers and Steamfitters Locals 7 & 773; Public Employees Federation; Sheetmetal Workers International Association; Capital District Area Labor Federation; Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation; Central NY Area Labor Federation; Troy Area Labor Federation; Saratoga County Central Federation of Labor; Glens Falls Are Labor Council.
