While campaigning today with Congressmen Steny Hoyer and Rush Holt at Skidmore College
Saratoga Springs NY - Kirsten Gillibrand, Democratic Congressional Candidate (NY-20) was joined by Congressman Steny Hoyer (MD-5), Democratic Minority Whip and Congressman Rush Holt (NJ-12) at the TAKE BACK THE HOUSE Rally at the Case Student Center at Skidmore College with roughly 200 students and residents today.
Given the recent announcement by North Korea, Kirsten Gillibrand issued the following statement about North Korea's decision to test a nuclear weapon, "North Korea is a significant threat and must be contained immediately. The Bush Administration's non-proliferation policy is failing; we need action, not just words. The U.S. must send a strong and clear message to other nations that the U.S. and the international community will not condone nuclear proliferation. The U.S. must demonstrate real leadership, establish stronger and more effective sanctions and make a commitment to diplomacy to get the parties involved back to the table, threats alone are not enough."
Gillibrand also thanked the Congressmen for joining her in campaigning in the district, "Together, we will take back the House in November. In Washington, there are too many checks, and not enough balance, it is time for change. I am grateful for the advice, time and energy of Congressmen Hoyer and Holt who have been incredibly supportive and it is an honor to welcome them to our beautiful District."
Both Congressmen took the stage and spoke of the importance of returning accountability to Washington. Congressman Steny Hoyer, the second highest ranking House Democrat said, "Kirsten's deep roots in the region and her personal and professional experiences make her the kind of leader that the 20th Congressional District needs. She will help bring change to Washington, and ensure that Congress is addressing the people's priorities."
Congressman Rush Holt added, "The stakes are high this fall. We need a new direction and a Congress that will do more than rubber-stamp the President's failed policies. Kirsten Gillibrand will provide the motivated leadership and honest representation that the people of New York's 20th District deserve."
The event concluded with a question and answer session led by Skidmore Government Professor Bob Turner. In addition to hosting today's event, the Skidmore Democrats are supporting Gillibrand's campaign through phone banking, canvassing and volunteering across the district.
